Riders interested in dressage training help their horses maintain a consistent tempo through riding aids and body language. Riding with a metronome that matches the tempo you want to maintain can help you develop a consistent and rhythmic tempo.

This metronome utility allows an instructor or peer to mark time for riders by giving a regular tick sound at a pre-determined rate. Plug your iOS device into an arena sound system and have a friend or instructor change the tempo as you change your gaits.

The main view shows average beats-per-minute (bpm) for each gait. Change the gait by touching the walk, trot, and canter buttons at the bottom of the main screen. Touch the add (+) and subtract (-) buttons to fine-tune the appropriate bpm for your horse. This app will automatically save the changes you make. Should you wish to reset the default bpm settings select the Reset BPM button on the ‘Info’ screen.

Note:
- The walk beats are measured against each footfall
- The trot beats are measured against each pair of footfalls
- The canter beats are measured against the footfall of the lead leg

Pros and cons of EquiTempo app for iPhone and iPad

EquiTempo app good for

Thanks. Works well. Replaces the music metronome I was using.
It worked perfectly for me. I had someone on the ground measure my horses gaits while I rode. Helped me put together a freestyle.
Pretty cool app! I cant wait to see what else they come up with!
I love this app I use it all the time. My trainer and I use it mostly before the shows so you know ok this is my horses beat. It has help improve my riding! Must get for beginer or advanced
Great app to create a steady horse or learn what music matches your horse

Some bad moments

No volume control, cant even hear it unless I hold my phone to my ear!!
I cannot figure out how to adjust the app to the footfall of the horse. I can use any number of free metronome apps and they are so simple and functional.
